NILAI,  May 16, 2017 –  Meaningful discussions and the sharing of ideas took place during an event of intellectual discourse entitled “Barakah Campus: Integration of Naqli & Aqli knowledge”, with the participants being the university’s students and management panel. The event was held at the foyer of USIM library in conjunction with the celebration of World Book Day at USIM level.

The panel for the event was made up of Prof Dato’ Dr. Musa Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Encik Muhammad Haizuan Rozali, Registrar and Mr. Irfan Faruqi Mohamad Fairus, Vice-Chairman 3 Students’ Representative Council USIM together with Puan Hariza Mohd Yusof, Head of Publishing USIM, who assumed the role of moderator.

During the event, Prof Dato’ Dr. Musa Ahmad stated that ‘barakah’ means growth, increase and abundance. Barakah is not a new concept – it extends beyond academic programs to include all programs held by the university which ultimately have the same objective, which is to induce the characteristics of barakah.

“The original idea to conduct the Barakah Campus came from the university’s Board of Directors, where Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abd. Razak gave an analogy of barakah as flowing water that gives benefit to all,” explained Dato’ Musa.

When asked about USIM now and before, Encik Haizuan shared the story of USIM’s early days of establishment, at a time when it was still trying to carve its own path and find its core identity. USIM today is an integration of the Naqli & Aqli model of knowledge, blending the conventional and the non-conventional to achieve the barakah that it yearns, while embracing the challenge to implement ‘practised leadership’.

“The challenge is how to prepare and equip the Naqli & Aqli Staff Integration (SIANA). Given the difficulties in combining spiritual and physical preparation, it must come from within oneself. Double effort needs to be put in to achieve this aim,” added Encik Haizuan.

From the students’ perspective, Irfan shared his views that the democratisation of knowledge will not happen without co-operation, character-building, holistic and balanced nature.

In conclusion, barakah really depends on each individual’s spiritual inner being. Each task we perform should be done sincerely with the intention of earning blessings and drawing barakah from Allah. What is most important is to achieve wellness in our daily life by observing the teachings of Islam, in order to reach the point of balance.
