UNITED KINGDOM, May 4, 2017 – The Chairman of Board of Directors of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, 66, was selected as the recipient of the Gilbert Award 2017 at the Gala Dinner of the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom on 4th May.

This is indeed a historical event as he is the first Asian man named for this highest award from Universitas 21, and the official announcement about this was released by Universitas 21 last year via their website.

According to the Chairman of Universitas 21, Professor Sir David Eastwood, the highest appreciation is given to Professor Tan Sri Dzulkifli for his charismatic leadership and enormous amount of experience in the academic and administration of higher academic world, both in Malaysia and overseas.

“He is the pioneer of “the humaniversity” concept, which is to be instilled in the universities, and he is highly committed to the internationalisation of higher education as well as to develop a concise and objective dimension with regards to global higher education scenario. We are extremely proud of him and we feel that he is the right person to receive the Gilbert Award 2017,” said Professor Sir David Eastwood.

Professor Tan Sri Dzulkifli also expresses his gratitude and appreciation for receiving this award and he dedicates this award to everyone who has courageously and collectively strive with him in sustaining higher education for all.

The Gilbert Award is named after the founder of Universitas 21, Professor Alan Gilbert. Up to this time, there were seven individuals worldwide had received this award for their significant contributions to the higher education world including Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.

Universitas 21 is an alliance of 25 prestigious research-based-universities worldwide and it is based in Melbourne, Australia in 1997. It aims to develop strong relationship to encourage mutual cooperation and collaboration among its members towards internationalisation of higher education and to spearhead its members to be at global ranking universities.

In the international level, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak is the President of the International Association of Universities, based in Paris, France. Besides that, he is a member of the World Academy of Art and Sciences (FWAAS). He had also served as an Expert Advisory Panel member of World Health Organisation (WHO) on Drug Basis and Management since 1995; and WHO Scientific Committee of The Regulations of Tobacco Products (2004-2006).

In the national level, his contribution shines as a Fellow member of Malaysian Science Academy (FASc), Malaysian Institute of Malaysia (FMIM) and Malaysian Foundation of Innovation.

In addition, he constantly shares his academic wisdom with the society through his media writings on various critical issues from education, sciences to current issues, as he has been the columnist for the New Straits Times since 1995 and recently, The Sun.
