NILAI, Jan 13, 2017 – More than 100 families from several kampung in Pasir Puteh Kelantan received healthcare services, food and survival kits from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia’s volunteer brigade.

USIM Vice Chancellor Prof Dato Dr Musa Ahmad said this year’s mission focused on 4 state assemblies including DUN Selising and DUN Limbongan.

“This is USIM’s continuous effort and commitment to the society, local or abroad. Being engaged to society and addressing issues in togetherness during natural disasters like this is crucial because for us as a university, we need to remain relevant and leave impacts to the community,” he added.

He added that the aid is considered as tazkirah, a concept used to describe how USIM community and its graduates would be giving back to the society.

There were more than 100 volunteers from USIM  which consist of uniformed bodies, SMART Team, KREAL, Wardah Club, Staff Welfare Club, Administrative and Professional Association Society (PRAGMATIS), and the University Health Centre.

The flood relief mission initiative includes home-to-home health care by the University Health Centre, food donations, cleaning up public areas and halls.

The monsoon season in East Coast has recently flooded several residential areas in Pasir Puteh,  to which 49 families have been evacuated to nearest 3 flood evacuation centres.

USIM’s post-Flood Relief Mission was held from January 14th to 15th.

The mission was also joined by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister Office, YB Senator Dato’ Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dato’ Dusuki who is also the Deputy Minister of Mentor USIM, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato Dr Musa Ahmad and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs & Alumni, Prof Dato Dr Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan.
