Introduction

In January 2004, USIM established Tamhidi Centre (Tamhidi means pre-university, matriculation or A’ Level) which conducts a 1-year program to prepare candidates with SPM (O’ Level) for admission into the undergraduate programmes offered by the University. The program is designed to fulfill USIM's aspirations to upgrade the status of Islamic learning, to bring it into the mainstream of national education, to promote a balance between theory and practice and, last but not least, to restore the excellent tradition of Islamic scholarship with the help of the latest technological advances.

The pioneer intake of students was for Tamhidi Medical Program during the Academic Session 2004/2005,  conducted at the USIM’s Bangi Branch Campus. However, starting Academic Session 2005/2006, all Tamhidi programs are carried at the newly established permanent Nilai Campus.

Programs

A. Tamhidi for Medicine

This program prepares holders of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM or O’ Level)) for admission into the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Only students with excellent results will be allowed to proceed to the bachelor program.

B. Tamhidi for Science and Technology

This program prepares holders of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM or O’ Level) for admission into the Bachelor of Science with Honours (Food Biotechnology), Bachelor of Science with Honours (Actuarial Science& Risk Management) and the Bachelor of Computer Science with Honours (Information Security & Assurance) which are offered at the Faculty of Science and Technology.

C. Tamhidi for Syariah and Law

This program prepares holders of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM or O’ Level) for admission into the Bachelor of Syariah and Law (Honours) and the Bachelor of Fiqh and Fatwa (Honours), offered by the Faculty of Syariah and Law. Those who pass the Tamhidi for Syariah and Law may also pursue programs in other faculties. For example, they may pursue the Bachelor of Da'wah and Islamic Management (Honours), the Bachelor of Communication (Honours), and the Bachelor of Counseling (Honours), offered by the Faculty of Leadership and Management. Alternatively, they may pursue the Bachelor of Quran and Sunnah Studies (Honours) offered by Faculty of Quran and Sunnah Studies.

Facilities

Facilities available include the library, science labs and computer labs which are equipped with access to the internet, lecture rooms and hostels.
