The University’s  Research Secretariat was established on 21 November 2000 operating under the wings of the Academic Division.  The secretariat was responsible to manage and arrange the research activities of USIM’s academic staff as well as providing a medium for the contribution of expertise and consulting  services to interested organizations. In December 2003, the Research and Conference Management Centre  was officially established,  to start operating in its own entity, separate   from the Academic Division. This is in line with  the growth of research and conference activities in the University together with the increase in the number of academic staff and programmes.  The centre was now focused on all activities related to research and conference.

In managing research,  the Centre is responsible to co-ordinate research plans/activities, financial management procedure, information dissemination and generally responsible for ensuring a  systematic research  reference management for the academic staff.  The establishment of the R& C Centre  is significant to the improvement of intellectual knowledge among USIM’s academic and administrative staff through their involvement  in local, regional and international conferences. The Centre is subjected to the decisions made by the University’s Research and Conference Committee and ultimately, the University Senate.
