KUALA LUMPUR, April 30, 2018 – This year, the Publisher of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) won the National Book Award of the Industrial Category Award 2018, as the Best Public Book (Islamic Studies Category), entitled “The Asnaf of Zakat in Malaysia: In regards of Time and Place” by Hasanah Abd. Khafidz. The event held was aimed in appreciating and acknowledging staff’s contribution in the publication field.
The event was organized by the National Book Development Foundation, as held at Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur on 30 April in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2018. The prizes in plaques and certificates form were awarded to the author herself and USIM Chief Publisher, Puan Hariza Mohd Yusof, as the USIM Publisher unit’s representative.
Puan Hariza responded that this award would be an encouragement for publishers and writers to keep persistent in producing high-quality works for future generations’ reference and sources.
Especially, USIM Publisher publishes academic books in various fields and genres; as their specialization is also publishing materials regarding the knowledge of Naqli and Aqli that USIM’s emphasis in their university.
“This award-winning book under Islamic Studies category proves that USIM Publishers are capable of publishing quality literature in relevant fields for the needs of Ummah,” she added.
She also shared that the book discusses on the method of evaluating the 8 groups of Asnaf in Malaysia by referring to the criteria set by the Fuqaha (Scholars in Fiqh field) to meet people’s needs (Asnaf) in Malaysia.
