Project Description

BACKGROUND

Needle phobia affects at least 10% of the population. As stated in the study dental fear and anxiety are frequently associated with the use of needles and syringes for local anesthesia (Ribeirão Preto 2015). The main reason of anxious behaviors and defensive reactions is because of painful perception during the administration of local anesthetics caused by tissue puncture, pressure and velocity of fluid injection. The threatening appearance of dental syringes may also contribute to increase fear, especially in dentally anxious children (Ronald et al,1973).
Apart from that, needlestick injuries (NSI) are a major occupational hazard among healthcare workers. Since needles and sharps are commonly used during dental procedures, workers in the dental profession are prone to this which might causing the transmission of blood-borne and body fluid transmitted diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis B and C. The overall incidence rate of NSI was 8.19% per person-years (Lee et al, 2014).
Because of these 2 serious problems, Hydroshooter is produced to reduce the dental fear towards local anaesthetic needle and also as the protection from needlestick injuries incidence which has reduce 83.7% of patient anxiety level toward needle.
