NILAI, Dec 8 2016, Fairus Abdul Manaf,a Bachelor of Science with Honours graduate in Food Biotechnology (Faculty of Sciences & Technology) was selected as the maiden winner forthe CEMCA Best Female Award.
The selection was based on her academic achievement, involvement in academic and co-curricular activities, and also her principles on women empowerment.
Fairus,who recentlygraduated in Bachelor of Science with Honours in Food Biotechnology (Faculty of Sciences & Technology) with 3.65 CGPA, represented USIM and Malaysia to numerous countries such as Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines forthe innovation competition and short film festival.
She was the sole representative from Malaysia to the Asian Youth Forum and, in 2016, won Best Poster Presentation at theAsia Pacific Student Forums for Innovation Competition and Short Film Festival in Indonesia.
Fairus is also the co-founder of Light Motion Production and has won many film-making awards in Malaysia and abroad, with one of her short film awarded two years of airtime on TV Al-Hijrah Malaysia.
The CEMCA Best Female Achiever Award is conferred based on a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) that was sealed during the USIM official visit to India from 23 to 27 November, 2015. This award is given to thestudent with the best overall achievement and who has shown outstanding achievement at university and at international level, based on the selection criteria that have been agreed upon. The selection criteria was forwarded to CEMCA for verification and was agreed by CEMCA on 16 June ,2016.
The award was presented at the Student Excellence Awards / Majlis Anugerah Kecemerlangan Siswa (AKSIS) 2015 on 6 December, 2016.
The CEMCA Best Female Achiever Award 2016 was presented by Senator Dato’ Dr. Ashraf Wajdi Dato ‘Dusuki, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Fairus received a cheque worth USD 600 and a trophy.
