iEYDFC 2017 strives hard to curb drug abuse

SUNGAI PETANI, Feb 10, 2017 – Asian Center for Research in Drug Abuse (ACREDA) Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and Agensi Antidadah Kebangsaan (AADK) have successfully organised International Workshop on Empowering Youth for Drug-Free Community (iEYDFC 2017) at Training Centre of Agensi Antidadah Kebangsaan (PLAK) from 4th to 8th February.

iEYDFC 2017 presented three modules in which about 206 participants were given the opportunity to discuss with the counsellor pertaining to the broad topic of drug abuse. Among topics discussed are primary and extended steps in preventing drug abuse.

Participants are also exposed on basic medication and rehabilitation of drug addict using Islamic psycho-spiritual therapy, besides involved in community services through outreach programme in Paya Nahu and Tanjung Dawai.

“It is hoped that iEYDFC 2017 is able to expose the youth on early prevention, medication and rehabilitation of drug abuse, which has become a crucial problem to the country nowadays. In a way, this is a corporate social responsibility programme that shows the commitment of the university to AADK in curbing drug abuse problem in our society,” said Dr Isa Amat, the ACREDA Director.

iEYDFC 2017 was officiated by Director of Prevention Department of AADK, En. Abdul Rahman Hj Hamid. This programme is co-organised by Asia Pacific Universities on Community Engagement Network (APUCEN), iM4U, Drug Free Youth Association (DFYA) and MASAC.
