SEPANG, October 10, 2019 –In an effort to build a global network of scholars and academicians, the International Language and Education Conference 2019 (iLEC 2019) acts as a platform to uncover and enlighten issues and concerns to address current situations and challenges and integration of Naqli and Aqli knowledge in addition to opening new discoveries and alternative approaches to the theory and application aspects of language teaching and learning.

A total of 241 presenters, posters and virtual presenters from 12 countries including Philippines, Japan, Indonesia Pakistan China, Brunei India, Nigeria and Oman, including two 16-year-old participants from USIM Kolej Genius Insan (KGI).

For the first time in the iLEC series of conferences, an innovation competition was launched, Innovate @ iLEC, also supported new innovations in language education. A total of 60 groups competed and out of that, 10 teams took home  gold medals. They are from UPSI, ELTC, KUIS, UITM (2 groups), UPM (2 groups) USIM (2 groups) and Vocational College

According to iLEC 2019 Director Dr Habibah Ismail, iLEC 2019 offers a number of changes to respond to the demands of new ideas and the challenges of industrial and technological progress, this year’s conference added two new categories. Through this conference participants can exchange ideas, knowledge, experiences and at the same time foster collaboration among scholars, academicians, researchers and students from around the world to review the latest knowledge, theories, techniques and strategies in the field of language and education to improve overall teaching and learning quality in the challenging 4IR era.

“We also introduce a virtual presentation category that supports the needs of international researchers. The collaboration with our global and local partners, the Faculty of Languages Education, Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, Indonesia and WorldConferences.net, was an incredible experience and a truly rewarding experience, ”she said.

“I hope that iLEC will continue to be an important and useful instrument for FPBU and USIM in its aspirations to strengthen and expand the global and local network. In addition, we hope that iLEC remains relevant by providing a fresh and up-to-date platform and continues to be a place where scholars can gather with world-class academics while building new networks with global players especially on the Southeast Asia stage, ” she said again.

The two-day conference runs from October 9 to 10, 2019 at the Sama-sama Hotel with the theme “Language and Education in the Midst of Challenging 4IR” | “Language and Education in the Face of 4IR Challenges”.

Managed by the Faculty of Languages (FPBU), USIM. This year, iLEC 2019 is being held in collaboration with Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY), Indonesia and WorldConferences.net as co-organizers. The conference was officiated by Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation, Prof Dato’ Dr Roshada Hashim.
