QATAR, Feb 2, 2017 – A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was sealed between Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and the World Organisation for the Renaissance of Arabic Language (WORAL), also a member of the Qatar Foundation, following a work trip taken by YB Dr Ali Ahmad Qubaisi to USIM on the 30th and 31st of May 2016, demonstrating Qatar’s concerns that the Arabic language be utilised by the Muslim community in Malaysia.
The Memorandum of Agreement, signed by the Vice-Chancellor of USIM, Prof Dato Dr Musa Ahmad and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of WORAL, is intended to encourage the use of Arabic language in Asian countries, with offers of educational and cultural programmes all around the world.
“USIM brings into this joint-venture its intention to establish ruknu arabi (Arab Language Corner) which is seen to have the potential to be a platform to enhance and spread knowledge of the Arabic language, which will directly contribute to the development of the Arabic language especially in non-native Arab speaking countries such as South East Asian countries,” said Dato’ Musa Ahmad in his speech.
According to him, the center will serve as a platform to disseminate and share information pertaining to references, research, publication series, journals and any form of Arabic language publications for the common good. In fact, USIM is honoured to be given the opportunity to be part of the joint-venture and shall make the most of the opportunities made available to it.
“It is seen to be a move which will bring positive impact to the development of the Arabic language, which can in turn confer benefits on the Islamic world. Indirectly, it will strengthen the ties between USIM and WORAL as well as relations between Malaysia and Qatar,” he added.
