NILAI– The Students Award of Excellence Ceremony (AKSIS) 2023/2024 at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) was held with great success at the Main Lecture Hall, Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies, on January 16, 2025. The event served to acknowledge and celebrate students’ remarkable achievements in academics and extracurricular activities.

The ceremony featured 17 categories of awards that are conforming to the selection criteria of the National Best Student Award (ATS) of the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT). Particularly, the recipients of the award will automatically represent USIM nationally under the National Best Student Award (ATS) governed by the Ministry of Higher Education.

The Vice Chancellor of USIM, YBhg. Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifuddin Md Shaarani, said in his speech, this ceremony embodied the university’s commitment in producing promising, holistic and entrepreneurial graduates based on the Naqli and Aqli Knowledge Integration Graduate Model (GIINA). He also announced that 17 award categories had been competed this year, with 99 nominations received, indicating an increase compared to 83 applications in the previous year.

Additionally, a member of the USIM Board of Directors, YBhg. Datuk Haji Md Yahaya Basimin, encouraged students to consistently adapt themselves to global challenges and centered the importance of knowledge integration, practical proficiency, and excellent leadership. He also admired USIM’s efforts in providing various platforms to polish the students’ potentials, in line with the students’ education agenda as were set by the Ministry of Higher Education.

He also reminded the recipients not to be easily satisfied with their achievements, but to consistently improve themselves and seek advantages that lead to a positive impact on others. In line with the Ministry of Higher Education, Datuk Yahaya also encouraged the students to be agents of change that can adapt themselves to the passage of time, solve problems innovatively, and constantly apply every practice with virtues.

In addition, Najmi Adli Mustaffa, a fourth-year student of the Bachelor of Communication from the Faculty of Leadership and Management of USIM, was conferred the AKSIS Best Student Award for his brilliant contributions in various fields. The former President of the Creative Developer Club is seen to be active in public speaking, debate and literary arts and has made USIM impressive on the national and international stages. Some of his best achievements were due to his organization of two (2) programs which are the Sayembara Puisi Pentas Dunia (SePENA) and Sincerely, Setia Youth Synergy Programme Manifestation of Unity Through Arts.

Moreover, the GIINA Icon Award was conferred on Abdul Basith Abd Samad who is a fourth-year student of the Bachelor of Science with Honours (Applied Physics). He has made significant contributions in extracurricular activities throughout his studies. He was then awarded with the Special Award of Extracurricular Activities during the 22nd USIM Convocation Ceremony, as a result of his active involvements and commitments in university’s extracurricular activities.

The Award of Appreciation (Individual) was conferred on two (2) recipients whom were Dr. Junaidah Abu Seman who is the Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Muamalat with 13 years of decorated experience in teaching and learning. In fact, Dr. Junaidah also serves as the Director of the FEM Alumni Chapter, USIM whose role is to design and organize programs among alumni, faculties and the university under the management of Career and Alumni Centre. The second awarded recipient was YBhg. Dato’ Ts. Gs. Azhar Hj Ismail who is the Chief Executive Editor, MAP2U Sdn. Bhd. He has made meaningful contributions to the development and the welfare of students through the Islamic Centre. He endowed the Speaker System and supplied iftar meals, while in support of the efforts in improving the welfare of the students’ community.

Furthermore, the Award of Appreciation (Organization) was awarded to two (2) organizations, the first one was the Islamic Centre, USIM which has made significant contributions in strengthening Islamic values, providing support for welfare, and promoting knowledge to the general public and especially to the community within the university. The second awarded organization was Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad which has played an important role in character development and career advancement, in line with their goals to boost the Malaysian talent strategy towards becoming a dynamic talent hub. Talent Corp has funded PHEP and PUSAKA through the Future You(th) Aspiration (FYA) funds for three (3) years.

Overall, this event succeeded in recognizing the persistent efforts and dedication of the students who have honoured the university while contributing to the enrichment of the community as well. The AKSIS ceremony is hoped to be the stepping stones to more brilliant achievements in the future.
