NILAI, April 21, 2020 –   Various parties continue to give support and donation to the initiative driven by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to aid the needs of the front liners. Today, our local singer, Ezad Lazim or his real name Mohd Rohaizad Mohamad Lazim, age 41, reached out to volunteer delivering USIM’s hand sanitizers to Gua Musang, Kelantan.

The voluntary work by ex-vocalist of Exists band was extended to him after he spent an hour with USIM FaST LaB team last Monday preparing the bacteria disinfectant liquid in the lab. The hand sanitizers produced by USIM are distributed for free to the front liners especially in hospitals, government clinics, quarantine centres and to uniform bodies as an initiative to combat against COVID-19.

Ezad Lazim expressed his happiness to be part of the volunteers in such noble effort shown by USIM. “Got the chance to be a volunteer with USIM to distribute the hand sanitizers and face shields to the front liners. Excellent work to Faculty of Science and Technology USIM” wrote the singer in his Instagram account. The singer was popular with songs such as Demi Cinta, Kuasa Cinta and Kesetiaan Cinta.

According to Dr. Syaza Azhari, a FaST LaB member, the team was impressed and praised Ezad Lazim’s effot to help send this disinfectant fluid supply. “Since the news  of USIM producing hand sanitizer to be donated to front liners was broadcasted in the media, we have received numerous requests every day from around the country”

“We are trying to meet this demand but for some remote locations, we have the constraints to distribute, for example the request from the Gua Musang District Police Headquarters (IPD). Thankfully, Ezad Lazim volunteered to send this supply there. Ezad left for Gua Musang this morning with FST lecturer Associate Proffesor Dr. Mohd Azman Hashim@Ismail”. said Dr. Syaza Azhari who is also a senior lecturer of Industrial Chemical Technology at FST.

She added that they would also distribute 315 bottles of USIM disinfection fluid at every security check post along the routes from Gombak, Bentong, Raub, Kuala Lipis to Gua Musang. There are approximately 13 to 15 security check posts set up by the Royal Malaysian Police ( PDRM) along this route in line with the enforcement of the Movement Control Order.

At the final destination, IPD Gua Musang, 70 bottles will be delivered before returning to Kuala Lumpur. The disinfectant fluid produced by USIM is in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) standards and to date more than 5000 bottles have been produced by USIM.
