NILAI, March 22, 2017-Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) plays an active role in developing the establishment of King Salman Centre of International Peace (KSCIP) since its establishment was officially announced in a joint statement release by the governments of Malaysian and Saudi Arabia.
After the statement was issued, USIM has taken proactive steps to set up a special team at the University level, led by the Vice Chancellor and followed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor and academic experts from various faculties and the administration officials.
At the government level, USIM is directly involved in the establishment of the KSCIP Special Committee chaired by the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department, Senator Datuk Dr. Haji Ashraf Wajdi Dusuki with the Ministry of Défense and the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MIDAS).
Through the establishment of the Special Committee KSCIP platform, USIM has been involved in a series of meetings with the Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Datuk Dr. Haji Ashraf Wajdi Dusuki in Parliament. In addition, a series of discussions with MIDAS was held at the Ministry of Defence and in USIM to see the content, operation, infrastructure and administration of KSCIP.
The contributions USIM made in the establishment of KSCIP mostly focuses on harnessing the expertise of academic experts in the fields of Islamic studies, international law, counseling and safety of securities across various faculties. As a recognized University in the field of integration of Naqli and Aqli knowledge, this uniqueness is applied in every area of expertise that we offer so that the results will have a more relevant and significant impact.
In order to combat and deal with global security threats, as a result of an increasingly complex dissemination of propaganda and ideological violence by extremists and terrorist groups around the world, an approach that has elements of Aqli and Naqli is deemed suitable for us to experiment and venture into in depth. Thus, in addition to having capable in-house expertise, it also opens up opportunities for USIM to exploit relationships with strategic existing partners and experts in and outside the country to be collectively and optimally involved in this KSCIP.
Minister of Defence in a statement recently also announced that USIM is also invited to participate in discussions with representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the League of Arab World in a meeting with the representatives of the Government of Saudi Arabia to Malaysia on April 10th to further discuss the establishment of KSCIP.
In a joint statement issued in conjunction with the four-day visit of King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud to Malaysia on 28 February to 1 March, USIM is entrusted with the responsibility, together with the Ministry of Defence of the two countries and the Muslim World League (League of Arab World), for the establishment of KSCIP. USIM with the mentioned parties will materialize the establishment and launching of KSCIP within three months as stated.
