In its efforts to make USIM students part of global citizens, USIM has established a signature programme known as Global Islamic Student Outreach (GISO). GISO is a platform for students to get involved in global missions through community engagement activities, especially in countries where Muslims are the minorities.
Since its conception in 2011, the GISO programme has had visiting records of more than 30 countries, among which include Japan, South Korea, China, England, Mauritius, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and India.
By the end of 2016, around 112 global missions had been completed, with more than 2000 participants. The community engagement activities focus on information and knowledge transfer programmes that benefit both students and local communities, such as learning Arabic and English, observing the Qurban and Akikah, learning khat calligraphy, constructing mini libraries, providing sanitation facilities, cultural arts, cultural exchanges, and others.
