NILAI, Dec 15, 2016- The first Journalism Corner with the collaboration of Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) has been recently launched by the fourth-year students of Journalism from the Faculty of Leadership and Management (FKP) Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).

The main objective of the Journalism corner is to provide a comprehensive understanding on the field of journalism.
It involves 41 Journalism students under the tutelage of, Dr Siti Suriani Othman, a senior lecturer of the Communication Department.

There were about 11 workspaces that exhibited the artworks, posters and  writings relating to journalism field.
Visitors also have an opportunity to ask the students questions about journalism.

According to Dr Siti Suriani Othman, the idea of the program came about when she and the students visited Xiamen University to observe their Journalism Corner.

“I had asked Communication students in Xiamen University to set up a Journalism Corner for the same purpose; as a means to expose them to the world of journalism, apart from gaining more knowledge.”

“I had the Journalism students from USIM to come over to Xiamen and see the students’ work and from then they had requested to adopt the same program in USIM as well,” she added.

The programme was officiated by the Dean of FKP, Prof Madya Dr Mohd Yahya Mohamed Ariffin and the Chief Executive Officer of MPI, Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya.

Prof Madya Dr Mohd Yahya Mohamed Ariffin in his speech congratulated Dr Siti Suriani and all of the final year students of Journalism for their success in establishing the first Journalism Corner in USIM.

On the same note, USIM Library is also partnering with Communication Department to established its ‘Journalism Corner’ for the next two years.

The section will  show publications by the Journalism students such as USIM Today, Cetus magazine, and articles published in newspapers.
