PULAU PINANG, March 6, 2017 – Prof. Dr. Rozhan M. Idrus and Prof. Dr. Badrul Huda Khan have inspired the establishment of the International Congress of Muslims in Educational Technology (ICMET), taking the initiative and expressing serious awareness to the development needs and the expansion of the global educational technology,

ICMET is an international congress organized by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) with worldwide memberships, regardless of race and religion. The congress membership is open to students, academics, researchers, and investors. ICMET operates without a membership fee, where the congress’ main financial source comes from contributions of members, endowments, or sponsorships. To express the establishment of this congress, the pre-launch of ICMET was held at Dewan Budaya Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang. The program with the theme “strengthening the collegiality of the global institutes of education” was jointly organized by USM, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), USIM, McWeadon Education USA, Daffodil International University (DIU) Bangladesh, and the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM). USM took the responsibility of hosting the pre-launch ceremony of the congress, in conjunction with the launch of the E-Learning book: Open Learning Environment, written by Prof. Dr. Badrul Huda Khan, a renowned expert in e-learning from the United States. The ceremony was also attended by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, Assistant Vice Chancellor of USM, and Prof. Datuk Dr. Syed Othman Al-Habshi, Vice President of the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF).

Among the objectives of ICMET is to umbrella the scholars in the field of educational technology by collecting, enhancing, and strengthening the network of expertise, to innovate the world of education for the common good.

Rozhan, the founder of this congress, said, “The public are expected to contribute in this congress, either in terms of money, ideas, networking, or in other suitable forms. It is hoped that this congress will become the main driver in the development of innovative pedagogy, improvement of delivery methods, expanding access, and improving educational equity”.

He added that this congress will organize several academic activities under the theme of educational technology through conferences, forums, and exhibitions. The main activities that will be organized by ICMET is the annual congress, where the nearest date is around March 2018, and it is expected to be held in Kuala Lumpur. Other activities that will take place with the launching of ICMET is the International University Carnival on E-Learning (IUCEL) that is going to be held on 25 to 26 September 2017 in USIM. IUCEL 2017 is a program organized by the Malaysian Council of Heads of e-Learning (MEIPTA), and the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT).
