NILAI, 13 March 2018 – The inaugural two-day ‘Islamic Global Innovation Festival and Talent’ (i-GIFT) program which started on March 10th presented the effort of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) taking on the role as innovation hub that gives the ummah an opportunity to develop innovation institutions in the realization of Malaysia’s intentions in the National Transformation 2050.

Prof Dato Dr Roshada Hashim who addressed the Opening Ceremony on Saturday said the i-GIFT featured uniqueness by focusing on the creation of Islamic innovation products that could improve the quality and productivity of daily life while preserving the chain of five fundamental Islamic principles ie maintaining and preserving religion, soul, intellectual, heredity and wealth.

In the Opening Ceremony of i-GIFT officiated by USIM Vice-Chancellor, YBhg Prof Dato Dr Musa Ahmad, USIM received a Mock Check of zakat funds distribution amounting to RM50,000.00 from QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd which was represented by Datuk Mohammed Azahari Mohamed Kamil, Director Managing QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd cum Board of Directors of the University whereby the zakat funds will be channeled to those qualified to carry out activities organized by the Institute of Halal Research and Management (IHRAM).

Meanwhile, YB Datuk Wira Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) who completed the i-GIFT Closing Ceremony on Sunday, said that besides cultivating innovation and creativity, i-GIFT also provided an opportunity for younger inventors to gain early exposure about innovation and to showcase their innovative products.

“The culture of innovation and creativity must begin with education and this must involve all classes of Malaysians especially the younger generation namely the Y and Z generations. This coincides with the 1Malaysia principle where every Malaysian is a potential human capital to contribute meaningfully to our country, “he said while presenting the prize to the winner of i-INOVA”.

YBhg. Prof Dato Dr Musa Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor of USIM who delivered a speech said, the i-GIFT program was a set of major innovation programs and showcases of USIM under one platform to exhibit products ranging from students, researchers, public and private agencies and as well as industry.

i-GIFT embraces six other programs featuring 120 participants joining the Islamic Innovation Expo (i-INOVA) which entered the 8th edition as a major program besides several other simultaneous programs such as Halal Istihlak (Consumerism) -HISEC seminars, product commercialization workshops(Workshop 361o Perspectives on R & D Commercialization, The STREAM @ N9 exhibition featuring science, technology, research , engineering and mathematical exhibitions, Tunas Cipta competition featuring creative designs and ideas from schoolchildren and innovative product exhibition for people with disabilities (OKU) which are USIM showcases.

i-GIFT has received sponsorships amounting to RM30,000.00 from QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd while other sponsors are Mamee-Double Decker (M) Sdn Bhd which contributed in the form of hampers to winners participating in the competition under the HISEC group which is the Global Halal Game (GHG) board game. Also a sponsor of RM 1,500 cash from YBhg Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dato Dr Abdul Shukor Hj Husin for the Special Award (Al-Khawarizmi and Ibnu Sina) each, RM 1,500 from the FAQEH Foundation for the Ibn Ummi Maktum Award each and RM 1,500 sponsored by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development for Fatimah Fehri Award.

At the prize presentation ceremony i-Inova 2018, the Gold Medal Prize was awarded to 16 recipients for the Open Category namely Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) (MPOB), Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Kolej Komuniti Kuala Langat and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) while 5 recipients for the Undergraduate Category to Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and Universiti Malaysia Pahang. Participants took home RM500 cash with medals and certificates.Winners of the Special Award and the Main Award are as follows:
