NILAI, September 7, 2017 – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) has received 2,192 new students enrolling in residential colleges on Tuesday, September 5, and the number remained as of during the university and courses registration for the 2017/2018 session which took place on 6 September at the Dewan Tuanku Canselor USIM.
Hostel registration started as early as 8.30 am in three hostel locations namely Residential College 1 (KK1), Sutera Indah Residential College and Nilam Court Residential College. Shutter buses were provided for students and parents easy access to these locations. Majority of the parents were satisfied with the registration process and happy that they could accompany their children in a well-controlled and systematic process.
The Principal of KK1, Dr Ahmad Najaa’ Mokhtar said, registration at Residential College 1 went smoothly with the arrival of the students and parents and guardians at 8.30am.
This year, USIM received 23,069 applications to further study in its 9 faculties. Faculty of Science and Technology received the highest number of students registering (458) followed by Faculty of Economics and Muamalat (396), Faculty of Quran and Sunnah Studies (340), Fakulti of Leadership and Management (303), Faculty of Syariah and Law (288), Faculty of Major Language Studies (224), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (80), Faculty of Engineering and Built Management (68) and Faculty of Dentistry (35).
According the En Hammad Farhi Mohd Saudi, Head of Academic Management Division, from the total number of 2,192 students who registered, 614 males and 1,578 female students including six international students from Indonesia, Singapura and Gambia.
Some of the students interviewed shared their happiness and are excited to attend the lectures next week. The same feeling was shared by a special student (Autisme), Ahmad Zahiruddin Zailani, 21 years old from Bangi, a graduate of Diploma in Tahfiz Darul Quran in Kuala Kubu Bharu. He successfully completed his memorisation of the whole Al Quran during his 2 ½ years of studies there.
Ahmad Zahiruddin has dreamt of becoming and Information Technology expert and has chosen to enrol into the Bachelor of Quranic Studies and Multimedia program to gain in-depth exposure to the computer subjects and at the same time maintain his al-Quran memorisation skills.
“With full support from my parents, I decided to choose this program because I am interested in both areas. Furthermore, there are not many public universities offering computer and religious subjects in one program” he said.

“Blessed with the support from my family, I do not want to make my disability as a burden but as a driving force. I do not want to hamper my parents’ hope. Praise be to Allah, I have been brought up to be independent and to manage myself. This decision to further study in USIM is the best decision for my future.” she said.

According to her mother, Surimah Paijan, Siti Fathiyatun had to delay her studies as she had to undergo a slip disc surgery on her spinal cord after fallen when she was in form 6.She had informed the registration management of her treatment and is given permission to begin classes after she has fully recovered.

Beginning from the registration day until 8th September, the freshies will undergo orientation week. Activities during the week include University Liqa’ briefing, talk on National Independence Month (Bicara Bulan Kebangsaan), Student Oath Taking ceremony, Welcoming Sessions with the Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and International, briefing on financial management, Discussion session with Duta TN50, briefings from library, Enteprenuership division, Soft Skills division, Information technology division and Faculty briefing and also student’s matrix card management.
