Nilai, September 24, 2016 – A total of 40 local and foreign university academics attended International Conference on Kampung Mizan for three days from 23rd to 25th of September 2016.
The project is a joint effort between USIM and Bank Rakyat and the conference was organized by Mizan Research Center, also known as MRC.
Mizan is an Arabic word for ‘balance’.
The conference was inaugurated by the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education Datuk Prof Dr Asma Ismail.
Academics from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Educational Consultant and Trainer, Greece, University of Duhok Kurdistan, and Universiti Padjajaran Indonesia were among those who involved with the research.
According to the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) Prof Datuk Dr Musa Ahmad, academics from across the countries have gathered hand in hand in producing a Kampung Mizan model that aims to conserve the lifestyle of village folks who have been experiencing crisis imbalance.
A case study on Malay Muslim villages were conducted in Kampung Baru, Kampung Kerinchi, and Kampung Abdullah Hukum in Kuala Lumpur, Kampung Parit Gabis in Perak, Kampung Morten in Melaka, and a village in Seri Menanti Negeri Sembilan.
“We have to preserve and practice the values, customs, and traditions highly upheld by the villagers so that theywill not disappear among the hectic urban lifestyles as we are having now.”
“The thrust of MRC project consists of Islamic Studies, Social Science, and Science and Technology. Besides this conference, MRC is currently involved in a number of book publications” added Dato Musa.
Three projects are currently being carried out under the Kampung Mizan Research Center, which are Kampung Mizan Initiative, Qalb Leadership, and Qalb Leadership Decision Making.
Also present at the conference were the University Chairman of the Board of Directors, Prof Tan Sri Dato Dzulkifli Abdul Razak and the Chairman of Yayasan Bank Rakyat, Datuk Hj Abdul Rahman Kasim.
