SHAH ALAM, 7th September 2022 -Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) received an award for the category of Humanitarian Volunteering Involvement from Yayasan Kebajikan Muslim (MyFundAction).
This award was obtained for the involvement of USIM students with youth development NGOs through the Gap Year Volunteerism program as well as several other youth development programs such as Special Iftar for Ummah (SIFU) and Qurban Care for Ummah (QC4U).
The Gap Year Volunteerism 3.0 and 4.0 program that were carried out in 2020 and 2021 are the initiatives of the Ministry of Higher Education that were only implemented at USIM through collaboration with strategic partner MyFundAction. A total of 10 students have been selected to participate in a year-long ‘study break’ program to join the humanitarian and volunteer activities through domestic and foreign projects with the NGOs involved.
Prof. Dr. Adnan Mohamed Yusoff, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), expressed his gratitude for this award and hoped that this strategic partnership would continue to improve the soft skills and employability of students.
He said that the students’ soft skills development is not sufficient with the efforts and initiatives carried out by the university alone, even though co-curricular programs have been established. Therefore, cooperation from industry that coincides with experts in the field of youth development should be mobilised to provide early preparation to students before they face the “real world” after completing their studies.
“MyFundAction has taken the initiative to develop soft skills in each student, either through their projects or through participating as YOSH volunteers, which will expose them to the reality of life after graduation,” he added.
Present during the ceremony were Dr. Mohd Hizul Azri Hj. Md Noor, Founder and Principal Advisor of MyFundAction, Tuan Muhammad Afiq Mohmad Nazari, Chief Executive Officer of MyFundAction, Associate Professor Dr. Arbaie Sujud, Director of Alumni Relations Centre, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Mr. Saidi Ismail, Head of Student and Alumni Affairs, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
