NILAI, November 25, 2018 – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) had hosted the fifth Seminar Serantau Pendidikan Tinggi Islam (SeIPTI) 2018 from 25 to 26 November 2018 which took place in the Senate Hall, USIM Chancellery Building. A total of 110 papers were presented throughout the two-day program.

The opening ceremony was officiated by YB Tuan Zulkefly Mohamad Omar, Yang Dipertua Dewan Undangan Negeri Sembilan.

”I also commend USIM for its consistent participation in regional collaboration. Aligned with its function as an Islamic university, USIM was announced as the pioneer in the Consortium of Islamic Higher Education Institution by the Malaysian Ministry of Education in early 2013 for Academic Quality and Advanced Research, also known as i-IQRA’. The Consortium is the hope of the nation to enhance academic programs and Islamic studies, which will not only be beneficial to education institution in the country but is also valuable beyond geographical borders for OIC members at the regional level.

”I hope that USIM will continue to strengthen this regional collaboration by reviewing suitable incentves so that USIM’s noble efforts can be further bolstered in the future. Regional collaboration like SeIPTI is important for the Ministry of Education because it is a strategic collaboration that can highlight Malaysia’s prominence as a higher education hub,” said YB Tuan Zulkefly in his speech.

SeIPTI is a seminar program coordinated by four Islamic universities in Southeast Asia which are Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Malaysia; Universitas Darussalam (UNIDA), Gontor, Indonesia; Universitas Islam Sultan Syarif Ali (UNISSA), Brunei Darussalam; and Universiti Fatoni, Thailand.

This year, the theme of SeIPTI2018 is ’Pioneering Barakah Campus in Global Islamic Higher Education Institution’, in line with the role of a Regional Islamic Higher Education Institution to form a sustainable education ecosystem. It also aims to foster a religion-based institution with students who embrace Islamic values.

During the event, a ceremony was held for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by four higher education institutions which are UNIDA of Indonesia, Universiti Fatoni of Thailand, Mindanao State University of the Philippines, and Madrasah Ahmadiah of Indonesia.

Through this MoU, USIM will collaborate with them in training programs, research and development programs, staff and student exchange, as well as other collaborations that will benefit both parties.

The book “Memaknakan Kampus Barakah” was also launched during the event. It was based on the 7 I’s comprising the culture of Iqra’, Integrasi Ilmu Naqli & Aqli, Insan, Integriti, Interaksi Dengan Masyarakat, Internationalization, and Inovasi Insani Dalam Sains & Teknologi.

Other than the concept of ‘Barakah’, USIM is also unique because of the element it champions, ‘Heart-Based Leadership’ (Kepemimpinan Berdasarkan Qalbu) to be introduced and grasped by all the seminar participants especially the three strategic partners UNIDA, UNISSA, and Universiti Fatoni. By inviting leadership figures in higher education, USIM believes that the SeIPTI seminar this time a lot of discourse on global issues relating to leadershing in higher education in efforts to elevate the Islamic higher education sector specifically, to a higher level.

Also present in the event were Vice Chancellor of USIM, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Musa Ahmad; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman; and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dato’ Dr. Roshada Hashim.
