NILAI, October 18, 2019 – A total of 9361 students had voted in the Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar (MPP) 2019/2020 Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) election with an increase of voters turnout by 2.81% or a total percentage 92.48% compared to 89.67% in 2018.

The voting process using eUndi system began at 8.30 a.m. on 17th of October and it was concluded at 4.30 p.m. on the same day at 12 voting centres concurrently in the Nilai Campus, Pandan Indah Campus, Darul Quran in Kuala Kubu Bharu, and Hospital Temerloh. The use of eUndi had indirectly provided an opportunity for students to experience the process of voting as one of the responsibilities as students.

“Alhamdulillah, according to the statistics, it shows the camaraderie and the Islamic spirit of brotherhood between the winning and losing candidates. From my observation, there is a good perception on the future collaboration with the university’s management and other stakeholders in USIM,” said the Vice Chancellor of USIM, Professor Dr. Mohamed Ridza Wahiddin.

During the announcement session of the election results which took place at about 5.30 p.m., Miss Hanis Syafiqah Ribuan from the Faculty of Science and Technology was declared as the candidate with the highest number of votes for ‘kawasan umum’ with 9125 votes.

Hanis Syafiqah shared that she chose to run for the MPP to learn closely about management and the aspect of student affairs. She presented three manifestos which include the development of female students to enable existing talent platforms and volunteer activities through collaboration with clubs leadership. The second manifesto is to forge close relationship with the Center of Accountability (PJT) to increase awareness on emotion management among all the students. The third manifesto touched on the aspect of knowledge by organizing knowledge day at the colosseum and central lecture hall to boost the intellectualism of students.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Affairs and Alumni, Professor Madya Dr. Mohd Rushdan Mohd Jailani expressed his hoe that the students union and its new leadership will provide cooperation and support to the management for all the plans to be implemented as well as to represent the voice of fellow students so that improvements on any matters raised can be discussed together.
