TANJUNG MALIM, January 20,2018 – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) received the Gong Kencana award in the evening of the Council of Malaysian Universities Cultural Arts Awards Ceremony (MAKUM) in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). This award is presented to the best university in organizing cultural activities based on its excellent performance and cultural programs.
“USIM is proud to raise the standard of cultural arts in the context of Syariah compliance and that bring benefits to the society”, said Prof. Dato’ Dr. Musa Ahmad, Vice Chancellor USIM.
Second place was awarded to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) while the third place belonged to Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).
Meanwhile, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan, Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) USIM also commented that the cultural arts programs are able to uplift students soft skills.
USIM defeated 19 other public universities with high impact programs such as USIM Street Dakwah, Religious Concert for Rohingya (Konsert Munajat Untuk Rohingya), Theatrical Performance of the Battle of Uhud and other programs that have value of awareness which contributed to the community. “The Cultural Centre adapts the Arts of Culture in every program organized and students are the driving force of the elements developed and we are constantly building networks with strategic partners so that they are in line with the market demands and USIM’s own needs “said Ismail Ahmed, Director of Cultural Centre USIM.
Cultural Arts Award Night MAKUM also marked the launching of MAKUM new logo officially announced by the Secretariat Chairman Prof. Madya Dr. Md. Amin Md Taff, Vice Cancellor (Students Affairs and Alumni) UPSI. Muhammad Alif Omar Jalil from USIM emerged as the Winner of MAKUM Logo Creation which was opened for participation since October 2017 uptill January 2018. He received cash money of RM1000.00 and a trophy. Five token prices were also given away by the organizer. Representative from USIM Nurul Syifa Mohamad Rizal dan Ab. Rahimi Ab. Rezaf won the Bonang Emas Award (student/ Best Cultural Arts Activist and the Secretariat of Student’s Cultural Arts Club obtained the Gambang Mustika Award (Clubs/ Best Cultural Arts Club). The awards for both categories were presented to all best male and female students nominated by every university.
Chairperson of MAKUM Prof Madya Dr. Md Amin Md. Taff, Vice Chancellor ( Student Affairs and Alumni) UPSI said, the organization of MAKUM Cultural Arts Award aims to
give appreciation to students and staff of public universities who were involved directly in the organization and participation in the cultural arts programs.
Special awards by MAKUM such as Kalung Budi award was presented to an administrator of cultural arts who has greatly contributed to the development of MAKUM. Among the guests of honor invited to the Cultural Arts Award Night MAKUM 2017 were Datuk Nik Ali Mat Yunus, Vice Head of Secretary MOHE Development, Tan Sri Norliza Rofli, Chief Director of the National Cultural and Arts Department, Pn. Fauziah Md. Din, Deputy Head of Director of Students Development, MOHE , and several UPSI top officers and the Director of Universities’ Cultural Centers.
