CARDIFF, May 14th 2023 – To inspire to promote inclusive education and empower people with disabilities (OKU), the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, through Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) led by the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FKAB), has signed a Memorandum Agreement (MoA) with Eureka Robotics Center of Cardiff Metropolitan University (CMU), UK.
This collaboration focuses on leveraging robotics technology and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education to improve learning opportunities, especially for people with disabilities.
Datuk Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), stated that this collaboration was signed as an effort to respond to the Minister of Higher Education’s call to establish Malaysia as an international higher education center as well as a talent development hub.
“The cooperation between USIM and CMU marks an important milestone in the effort to dignify inclusive education. The two institutions join forces, through training and research collaboration, as well as the exchange of expertise between the two institutions, in the use of robotics technology and STEM education to empower individuals with disabilities and provide them with equal access to quality education,” he explained after the signing ceremony at CMU, UK.
Also present, USIM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifudin Md Shaarani commented that, as a public higher education institution based on Islamic Science, USIM always seeks a space to foster the community’s interest in science and technology, especially among people with disabilities and the underprivileged.
“USIM, located in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, is always concerned with the surrounding community, especially the disabled and underprivileged, with limited access to the latest technology. This partnership with CMU is an important step towards fueling STEM education through the latest robotics technology to promote inclusion and empower people with disabilities.”
“One of the main pillars of this collaboration is the integration of robotics and STEM education in addressing the educational needs of individuals with disabilities. USIM and CMU will work together to develop innovative programs and initiatives that use robotics and STEM concepts to improve the learning experience for students with disabilities,” he said again.
The collaboration agreement between USIM and CMU signifies an extraordinary commitment to inclusiveness, educational empowerment, and technological advancement. By combining their expertise and resources, the two institutions are poised to make significant strides in providing quality education and opportunities for the disabled and underprivileged by integrating STEM education and robotics technology.
