NILAI, August 12, 2018 – A number of 818 students from 26 Public and Private Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) throughout Malaysia were commissioned as Junior Officer ranked Young Lieutenant in a Corps Commissioning Ceremony of Students Public Defence Corps (Kor SISPA) 9th National Level Year 2018 on 12th August 2018 at Chancellor’s Hall USIM with the theme “Merakyatkan Pertahanan Awam” which means “Public Defense Nationally”.

Prof Dato Dr Musa Ahmad, Deputy Vice Chancellor of USIM said, USIM is very proud to be chosen as host for the second time after being given the trust to organize it first time in 2011. It is an honour to be given trust by KPM and APM to the University after the succes of the previous organization. Determined to be the best host, Corps SISPA USIM works closely with various departments in USIM and APM to ensure the requirements in terms of logistics, accomodations, technical and welfare of guests are optimally fulfilled.

Dato Musa feels confident that the undergraduates who participate in Corps SISPA has been physically and mentally well trained to prepare them in facing all types of obstacles especially in the constantly changing and challenging environment. Additional to that, members of SISPA can increase the effectiveness of Malaysia Public Defence Troop (APM) in public preparedness and society protection as well as disaster management in campus area and local region.

He expressed his words of congratulations and praises to all the members of Corps SISPA for their high commitment that have helped them in completing their successful training after 3 years of intense Public Defence Knowledge learning.

Parallel to that, a ‘APM Fun Run’ was organized a day before the commissioning ceremony. The 5km fun run program was organized in USIM campus to bring closer and improve the relationship between APM members and local community apart from encouraging suitable fitness activities for the whole community.

Present were Datin Paduka Ir Dr. Siti Hamisah Japsir, Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Pendidikan Tinggi  dan Pemangku Ketua Pesuruhjaya Pertahanan Awam, TPj. (PA) Roslan Wahab.

 

USIM Best Corps SISPA Cadet Award was held by Siti Aminah Hussain, Faculty of Leadership and Management. This youngest child of four siblings received her early education in Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanah Liat, and then furthered her education in Sekolah Menengah Islam alMasriyah. Currently she is studying in USIM in the counseling field. She chose APM because not only she is able to help her family, she is also inspired to help others. She has more reasons to favour the APM because her only brother is also a member of the Malaysia Army Troop (ATM).

 

On the other hand, Mohd Izzuddin Abdul Rahim, 21, Faculty of Main Language Studies (FPBU) of USIM said, the interest in voluntarily activities and finding a medium or channel for him to serve the community has dragged him in joining APM. His sweetest moments were whilst attending several courses and getting to know friends from other faculties, he even became a more disciplined person.
