Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): Lifestyle change

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are reaching epidemic proportions in Malaysia that continues to double within a decade. These diseases — which include cardiovascular conditions (mainly heart disease and stroke), some cancers, chronic respiratory conditions and type 2 diabetes, mental health that affect people of all ages, nationalities and classes in Malaysia. Focus on NCD can contribute substantially in strengthening the health systems agenda. Prevention & management of the diseases are elements that can facilitate high-quality healthcare for various conditions.

Health Services and Management

This issue focuses on creating a model of Islamic medical industry in Malaysia that instils the Maqasid Shar’iyyah concept in health services and management. In order to assure the relevance of this model, a broad area that include Islamic finance, governance, zakat and waqf and management of alternative medicine must be addressed.
