USIM grabs 2 golds and 2 silvers in ITEX'18

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12, 2018 – Four groups from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) had successfully grabbed 2 golds and 2 silvers in the 29th International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX 18) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center from 10th to 12th May.

Global Faraid Game group led by Prof. Madya Dr. Azman Ab Rahman and Triple Eye Lid: Edible Garden Passive Cooling and Air Filteration System in Suris group led by Ar. Fadli Arabi seized gold while the Islamic Sign Language (BII Ibadah) group headed by Dr. Nurul Asiah Fasehah Muhamad and the Global Arabic Game Gamification Innovation in Teaching and Learning group led by Dr. Nurkhamimi Zainuddin received silver.

“The success of these four products proved that USIM research and innovation products are still relevant for commercialization. The present achievement of innovation is a solid foundation for us to move forward more quickly towards achieving the goal of becoming a more focused and quality university in producing commercialization products. Additionally, the success of researchers in such international exhibition also adds value to the MyRA scoring,” according to a statement given.

Global Faraid Game helps and facilitates the community to learn faraid with a more interactive and efficient concept of gamification and learning. Meanwhile, the Triple Eye Lid: Edible Garden Passive Cooling and Air Filteration System in Suris involves green plants through solar light sensors to reduce temperature and regulate air pollution.

For BII Ibadah, it is a product to fulfill the needs of Muslim deaf community in performing ibadah due to limited terminology in Islamic Sign Language (BII) that causes misunderstanding of the sign and its meaning and not in accordance with the cultural context of the deaf in Malaysia. Undoubtedly, the Global Arabic Game Gamification Innovation in Teaching and Learning also highlighted the gamification method as one of the methods to improve the mastery of the students to understand each of the studied Arabic subjects.

ITEX 2018 was organized by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS) and was participated by various universities, corporate bodies and individuals from various ASEAN and Asian countries.
