NILAI, February 15, 2023 – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) today officiated the closure of the Campus Digitization Program Series 1 (Cashless Campus), which started on 1st October 2022 until 31st December 2022 and was organized in collaboration with Payments Network Sdn. Bhd., a national payment institution that operates world-class payment systems and financial market infrastructure in addition to e-payment services such as MyDebit, DuitNow QR, FPX, JomPay, Direct Debit and various other e-payment platforms.
In his speech, USIM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Sharifudin Md Shaarani said, “This cashless campus program is an encouragement to stakeholders (vendors) to register cashless acceptance at their respective banks and is one of the main initiatives in USIM’s Smart University Blueprint for the period from 2018 to 2025”.
In line with the implementation of the blueprint, five main clusters have been created to boost smart activity on the campus, and this cashless campus initiative is a project under the smart infrastructure cluster that targets cashless use in the university.
“Through this initiative, a committee has been set up to coordinate, monitor and empower cashless facilities and awareness on the campus. Some initial running projects include e-wallet, e-procurement, and JomInfaq USIM”, he said.
As a mechanism for the implementation of the cashless program held together with Paynet, USIM as a program participant needs to create at least one cashless acceptance method and create a policy to oblige all vendors to have a “cashless point” at the business premises and monitor the transaction activities to ensure “cashless” is widely used.
Data for the Campus e-payment transaction is then supplied monthly to the Organizer throughout the program. Vendors who record the highest number of e-payment transactions during the program period and meet specific Terms and Conditions are eligible to be selected as winners.
Meanwhile, Firdaus Ghani, Director of Paynet’s Client Engagement Division, said, “This program emphasizes the University’s efforts and initiatives to organize various activities to cultivate the acceptance and use of “cashless” among campus residents. We are informed that USIM is one of the universities that are active in promoting the “cashless” agenda by organizing various interesting activities such as Infaq Donation Campaign and Cashless Waqf, “Cashless Virtual Run” and the “Cashless University Program which involves vendors in USIM itself.”
“These efforts and initiatives cannot be achieved without strong support and cooperation from various parties such as the University’s management, staff, vendors, and all the students who study here.” He added.
In the same ceremony, USIM Library Department received a grand prize of RM2000.00 for successfully obtaining the highest number of cashless application transactions, followed by the USIM Press, which took home RM1000.00, the Faculty of Dentistry in third place with RM700, while the USIM Cooperative and the Security Department each received a consolation prize amounting to RM300.00.
Present at this closing ceremony was Mohd Esa Daud, Deposit Manager of Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Southern Region), senior officers of Paynet and the top management of the university.
