NILAI, June 6, 2018 – Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) who is also a scholar in Islamic Finance, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim Abd Rahman is appointed as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) USIM. The appointment is announced by the Minister of Education Malaysia and it begins from June 15th, 2018 to June 14th, 2021 (for the duration of three years) replacing Professor Dato’ Dr. Zulkiple Abdul Ghani

An event to welcome the new Deputy Vice Chancellor to report on duty is held at the Chancellery lobby this morning, attended by the Chairman of Board of the University, Professor Tan Sri Dato Dzulkifli Abdul Razak; the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Musa Ahmad; the senior management team and the staff at Chancellery.

Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim is a graduate in Bachelor Degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of East London (1990) before completing his Masters in Islamic Finance (1994) and Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Accounting (1999) from the University of Southampton (UK).

His career as an academician has bloomed in the International Islamic University of Malaysia for 21 years, ever since 1992. The new chapter of his career development in USIM begins in 2014 where he was appointed as the Director of Centre for Corporate Planning and Quality Management (PPKPK) from 2015 to 2017. Through his enormous experience in administration and higher education management, he had actively involved in the development of USIM Strategic Planning.

As an academician, his expertise in economics, Islamic finance, accounting, shariah audit and corporate administration is well manifested in his long-listing of publications of books, education journals, chapters in books as well as being the invited speakers in both international and national conferences. His expertise is also well recognized by many government and private agencies by his appointment as Board of Directors, and syariah consultants in financial institutions such as Etiqa Famili Takaful, Etiqa General Takaful, MBSB Bank, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia and HSBC Amanah Malaysia. Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) has also appointed him as the specialist consultant of muamalat and he was also involved in the accreditation of academic programme by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).

USIM believes that the talents, knowledge, expertise, strategic network and experience he is equipped with, can further move the university to the higher level especially in becoming the regional centre of reference for the integration of Naqli and Aqli knowledge. University also highly appreciates and thanks Professor Dato’ Dr. Zulkiple Abd Ghani for his excellent service in strengthening the quality of academic programmes and others.
