NILAI, June 8, 2018 – In conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri which is expected to be celebrated this Friday, city residents, especially Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) staff and students have started planning their return home to kampung. This situation indirectly contributes to increased traffic and vehicles on the road.

Traffic statistics that show sudden increase during festive season are certainly distressing and depressing as it also involves the loss of loved ones’ lives. Hence, in order to instill awareness and an advice to those using various modes of transportation to return home to kampung, USIM with the Negeri Sembilan Road Safety Department (JKJR) launched a special campaign on road safety for campus residents.

The Safety Campaign in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration was jointly launched by USIM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato ‘Dr. Musa Ahmad and Negeri Sembilan JKJR Director, Puan Zaiton Ipah on Friday. The launch was held at the USIM Chancellory lobby which is organized by USIM’s Department of Safety.

Involving about 200 university students using various types of vehicles, this program started with the road safety pledge led by Muhammad Faris Abd Gani, President of USIM’s Student Representative Council followed by prayer to have a safe journey while returning to kampung.

The launch of this campaign was perfected with the release of high-powered motorbikes convoy consisting of USIM personnel, students and followed by those driving motorcars. The vice-chancellor with the Negeri Sembilan JKJR Director also took the opportunity to advice each driver to drive safely besides distributing some contributions for breaking the fast and Hari Raya celebration.

Organizing such campaigns is a regular road safety campaign organized by USIM for its citizens. To diversify campaign inputs, USIM’s Safety Department will work with various strategic agencies and enforcement agencies to organize this campaign jointly annually.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his pleasure towards the campaign’s initiative as it directly helped the government to reduce accidents during festive season. He also gave an advice to service and inspect the vehicles properly and to ensure driving in a physically healthy, fresh and energetic condition, especially for longer trips.

USIM staff convoy back to kampung began at 4.30 pm and ended about an hour later. Also present to support this campaign is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dato ‘Dr. Zulkiple Abd Ghani; Registrar, Mr. Muhammad Haizuan Rozali; Director of Strategic Communications Center, Professor Dr. Mohd Yahya Mohamed Arifin; and Director of Security Department, Capt. (B) Abdul Wahab Md Zin.
