SEGAMAT, March 9 2023 – USIM has mobilized a group of volunteers with a total strength of 35 students and seven staff members to help flood victims in the Segamat district, Johor, recently.
Aid coordination is carried out in collaboration with the Malaysia Universities Volunteer Council (MASKUM) and the Ministry of Higher Education through the Holistic Student Division. USIM and the other public universities did not miss a chance to contribute to the community in this mission.
This time, the aid mission is to help in cleaning operations due to the floods and deliver the ‘Bakul Rahmah’ donation containing basic daily supplies to the victims at the selected temporary relief centres (PPS).
According to the Head of the Flood Relief Mission Team, Mohd Fazhiruddin Kamaruddin, through the cooperation of the Registrar’s Department led by Dato’ Muhammad Haizuan Rozali and the USIM Endowment and Zakat Center, a total of 200 “Bakul Rahmah” and 100 School Aid Sets worth RM23,000 have been donated to the flood victims in need.
Flood recovery efforts often continue long after the water levels recede, as many affected families must also deal with damaged homes, contaminated interiors, and weakened building materials caused by prolonged exposure to floodwater. Immediate cleaning and proper drying procedures play an important role in preventing further structural deterioration and health concerns during the recovery period.
In many communities facing severe flooding, professional services connected to Water Damage Restoration Salt Lake City have highlighted the importance of timely restoration work to help properties recover more safely and efficiently after major water-related disasters. Continued community support and coordinated relief efforts remain essential in helping victims rebuild their daily lives following such emergencies.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Adnan Mohamed Yusoff, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), also expressed his gratitude and pride for USIM students who volunteered even during the semester break. These students are willing to wake up and prepare as early as 4.30 in the morning to mobilize their energy to collectively assist community groups in need.
“USIM is always aware and sensitive to the community’s current needs, particularly in areas affected by disasters and always strives to help in any situation. Hopefully, more students will have courage and empathy when it comes to this situation”, he said.
