NILAI, December 13, 2017 – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) received the Best Industry Engagement Award Public Private Research Network (PPRN) in conjunction with the Global Entrepreneurship Community (GEC) Summit 2017 which took place yesterday at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
USIM took home a trophy and prize of RM 50,000 from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) presented by Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and accompanied by YB Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, the Higher Education Minister.
USIM is among the 26 Higher Education Institutions (IPTs) who participated in solving industrial problems. The main role carried out by USIM through the USIM Student Development Center (PPKS) was by organizing a PPRN workshop that gathered entrepreneurs who faced technical and technological problems in their business operations.
“In 2015, a total of eight series of PPRN workshops were organized by PPKS by gathering more than 100 entrepreneurs around Negeri Sembilan as well as entrepreneurs from Melaka, Perak, Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Entrepreneurs were assisted by facilitators comprising USIM lecturers and PPKS staff to state the problems they were facing. These forms were then screened by PPKS to ensure that the information sent to KPT was complete and easy to understand for further processing,” said Dr. Ummi Salwa, Director of PPKS USIM.
“USIM was consistent in delivering technical and technological issues of the entrepreneurs to the MOHE until it was resolved within the stipulated time given,” she added.
The RM50,000 PPRN Fund is an initiative grant of the MOHE in providing the best platform for researchers to help solve industrial problems using their expertise and research skills at their respective higher learning institution. Additionally, this program can reduce the entrepreneur’s cost to buy machines or equipment in the market that may be high and are unsuitable for the industry needs.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan representing USIM’s Vice Chancellor attended the ceremony with Dr. Ummi Salwa Ahmad Bustamam, Director of USIM’s PPKS and staff to celebrate the success.
