NILAI, 18 April 2019 – The Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM) has received an RM 25,000 zakat mock cheque contribution from Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB).
The Vice-Chancellor of USIM, YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Musa Ahmad, said that USIM is aiming to be the forerunner of the waqf and zakat field among public institutions. Hence, the strategic cooperation with BIMB is seen as one of the strategies that can ensure the sustainability of the ummah as well as the development of students.
“The zakat contribution received can indirectly alleviate the burden of USIM staffs and students in the B40 category. It is hoped that there will be other downstream programmes that can be held together, for example, the recently organised BIMB-USIM Certification Graduation Ceremony in USIM. In addition, incentives are also given to USIM responsibility centres (PTj) to implement CSR programmes with any strategic partner in the community-assistance efforts,” he said.
“At USIM, we constantly diversify our community activities. We offer physical assistance and monetary aids, which at the same time will lead to the development of USIM. Up until now, USIM has received RM 75,000 of donations from BIMB,” he added.
The representative from BIMB, Regional Deposit Business Manager En Mohamed Zaki Atip, in his speech said BIMB also cares and places a great emphasis on the progress of the ummah. Hence, the cooperation with USIM can support the respective efforts in bettering the community of asnaf (zakat recipients) and society.
According to the Director of the Centre for Awqaf and Zakat (PWZ) USIM, Dr. Mushaddad Hasbullah, the corporate zakat contribution of RM 25,000 to USIM via PWZ is to be distributed to the asnaf. He added that PWZ continually seeks to obtain contributions, be it zakat, waqf or infaq, from various parties, for example, banking institutions.
In USIM, PWZ is the PTj in charge of promoting and campaigning for almsgiving and increasing knowledge through the contribution of waqf, zakat and infaq for charity and da’wah. For example, PWZ helped the community through CSR activities to those affected by misfortunes and recently held a free petrol programme for residents around Nilai in collaboration with the Nilai Petronas station.
Also present during the event were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), YBhg. Prof. Dr. Mohd Rushdan Mohd. Jailani, the University Management, BIMB representatives and faculty dean representatives.
