NILAI – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) hit a medal target with the collection of 5 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals in the 44th Malaysian Inter-University Staff Games (SUKUM), which drew its curtain last September 24th.
Sports Center Director, Mr. Nur Ekmal Buhary said, that this sports participation is the first time after three years of “resting” due to the COVID-19 outbreak and is a great achievement by USIM sports athletes.
“Practically, USIM has achieved the target of equaling the gold achievement in 2018, which took place at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP).”
“227 athletes competed in the SUKUM Games 2022, with 157 male athletes and 70 female athletes. A total of 14 events were participated in out of 17 events that were contested, “he added.
The USIM Archery Team also excelled in the tournament, defeating the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) to be crowned Champions of the overall archery event by winning 3 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze for 11 archery categories at the tournament held at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
USIM won five gold medals, including three for Archery, one for Blitz Chess and one for Heavyweight MTB Cycling.
“Five silvers were contributed by archery athletes, and six bronzes were contributed by men’s volleyball, women’s singles petanque, and four more for archery.”
