NILAI, June 2, 2017 – The Negeri Sembilan Mufti Department has officially granted permission for the Islamic Complex of the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to host Friday prayer service starting from Friday today.

In a dedicated ceremony before the Friday prayer commenced, the declaration text issued by the Negeri Sembilan Fatwa Committee on the granting of the permission was officially read by Tuan Haji Nor Azamir Alias, the Deputy Mufti of the Negeri Sembilan government on behalf of the Mufti of Negeri Sembilan.

“On a related note, the permission granted to host Friday prayer service at the prayer hall (surau) of USIM Residential College, which had been given through a letter dated 25 February 2011, is hereby retracted” he said.

Prior to this, USIM students on campus and the Muslim residents in the surrounding areas such as Taman Desa Anggerik, Desa Jati, and Taman Acacia Avenue would usually perform their Friday prayers at the prayer hall of Residential College One, USIM.

The declaration ceremony, which was held at the main prayer hall area of the Islamic Complex of USIM, was attended by USIM’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato Dr Musa Ahmad; the Senior Management of the University and the Director of the Islamic Centre, Dr Khairul Anuar Muhamad Al Bakri; USIM students on campus and members of the local community.

With the move of Friday prayer to be held in this new location, it is hoped that the congregation will be able to enjoy more comfort and benefit from the array of facilities provided, apart from being able to accommodate a larger number of congregation members.

The Vice-Chancellor of USIM in his speech during the ceremony proclaimed that the Islamic Complex of USIM which stands before us today is a gift bestowed by Allah SWT in the holy month of Ramadan Al-Mubarak.

“The setting up of the Islamic Complex of USIM is in line with the concept agreed to by the University’s management, which is the concept of a Barakah campus.”

“All praise to Allah, the university landmark which has been long awaited by the USIM community, its alumni and the local residents, is finally ready after three years of patiently waiting.”

“It is a significant coincidence that 2 June 2014 was the start date of construction of the Islamic Complex of USIM and today, on 2 June 2017, USIM obtained the declaration allowing it to host Friday prayer service” he said.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) of USIM, Professor Dato Dr Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan, became the first preacher to deliver a sermon here entitled “The role of the Islamic Complex of USIM in the Development of the Ummah”, while the Friday prayer was led by the Director of the Islamic Centre of USIM and joined by around 2,500 members of congregation.

The Islamic Complex of USIM was built at a cost of RM20 million, from provisions granted by the Federal Government, on land area covering 6,500 square meters. It has the capacity to fit approximately 4,000 members of congregation at any one time.

Apart from the main prayer hall, the Islamic Complex of USIM is also equipped with a multipurpose hall, café, business premises, multipurpose rooms for catering/cooking, zakat counters and other facilities which are being built and developed in stages.

The Islamic Complex was officially opened for use on Friday (26 May 2017) to mark the arrival of 1 Ramadan, where more than 3,600 congregation members performed tarawih prayer together on the first night of the holy month.

In conjunction with this month of Ramadan, a few activities which are in keeping with the spirit of Ramadan are being held in the Islamic Complex of USIM such as the daily breaking of fast and holding of tazkirah (short Islamic lectures). This coming 12 June 2017, on Nuzul Al-Quran day, the event ‘Majlis Khatam dan Berbuka Perdana USIM 2017’ will also be held in the Islamic Complex of USIM.
