NILAI, March 25, 2017 – About 30,000 visitors had flooded the Malaysian Higher Education Carnival 2017 (KPTN 2017) which occurred for two days at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) from 25th to 26th March 2017. This carnival is organised to promote universities and colleges in Malaysia to the school leavers, especially those who have finished their SPM and STPM. In addition to that, detailed and latest information or guidelines to enrol to the institutions are also exposed to the visitors.

The Malaysian Higher Education Carnival 2017 is basically organised at seven zones throughout the country. The first session started in Kelantan last February, followed by Perlis, Johor, Pulau Pinang, Sabah, Sarawak and the last was held at Dewan Tuanku Canselor USIM, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan which is regarded as the central zone (Seventh zone), and it has become a great attraction to the people of Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur to gain first-hand information on academic programmes offered and other information.

In this carnival, participants were given opportunity to visit all 150 booths of public universities as well as sponsorship bodies. There was also enrolment seminar organised to counsellors and school teachers to expose them how to efficiently disseminate the information to school students; and how to advise students in selecting the right programme in public universities.

“The organisation of KPTN is very much awaited every year as it is an informative stop centre to future university students, parents, teachers and the neighbourhood community  to get information on accredited programmes and scholarship opportunities for those who have finished their SPM/STPM and equivalent certification,” said Prof. Dato Dr Musa Ahmad, the Vice Chancellor of USIM.

Variety of additional programmes were scheduled throughout the event such as Education Exhibition at the lobby of Kompleks Sukan Tunku Najihah, Career Talk, UPU counter, Quizzes, Drawing and Colouring Competition, Research Exposition, Sports Demonstration of Archery/Lawn Bowls/Petangue, Cultural Performance, USIM Buskers, food truck sale and many more. Also attended was singer Siti Nordiana, Caliph Buskers and Didi & Friends.

The closing ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching. Among VIPs attended were Datuk Nik Ali bin Mat Yunus, Deputy Chief Development Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Dato’ Kamel Mohamad, Deputy Chief Management Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education,  Datin Paduka Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah binti Tapsir, Chief Director of Ministry of Higher Education, Dato’ Amir bin Md Noor and Chief Director of Department of Community College Education.
