PENANG, 22 August, 2017 –The Novel Research & Innovation Competition 2017 (NRIC) held in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) from 15th to 17th August 2017 brought much success to the team from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). Out of 6 entries, USIM bagged 1 gold prize, 1 Special Award (Best Presenter Award), 1 silver, and 2 bronze prizes.
The product Double Layered Roof Cooling System Controlled (Technology Engineering Category) emerged tops and earned a gold prize whilst Ms. Ainul Husna binti Yusoff won a Special Award as Best Presenter Award, bringing home a trophy, a certificate, and a cash prize of RM750.
The Double Layered Roof Cooling System Controlled is a cooling system that uses solar energy to benefit a particular building through its ability to cool the building to a comfortable temperature and then consistently maintain such temperature through the automatic function of its system.
According to Ainul Husna, this product can also reduce usage of electrical power as the system works for the entire building as compared to the features of the typical air conditioner which can only cool the areas within the vicinity where it is installed.
“The design of this product took about one year to complete, with emphasis placed on incorporating environmentally friendly aspects, while simultaneously giving benefits to a particular building such as to the occupants of a residential house, factory, or even at cowsheds,” she added.
This balance of comfort, efficiency, and environmental responsibility underscores the critical role roofing plays not just in shelter, but in shaping the way we live and work.
When considering modern roofing solutions, it becomes clear that durability, sustainability, and expert craftsmanship must work hand in hand. A roof is only as strong as the attention it receives, from the choice of materials to ongoing maintenance and repairs.
Skilled professionals bring a depth of expertise to this process, ensuring proper installation and performance that lasts. By engaging a knowledgeable Roof plumber perth, property owners can feel confident that vital details such as drainage, sealing, and long-term structural integrity are handled with precision.
This not only protects the building but also ensures that innovative designs, like energy-saving roofing systems, deliver their full potential over time.
Beyond installation, comprehensive roofing service encompasses regular inspections, timely repairs, and proactive solutions to prevent minor issues from escalating into costly problems.
Partnering with trusted professionals, like Raleigh Roofers, ensures that every aspect—from weatherproofing to material longevity—is meticulously managed. Their expertise allows property owners to maintain not just the aesthetic appeal of their roofs but also the safety and efficiency of the entire structure.
With ongoing care and attention, roofing becomes more than a functional necessity—it evolves into a long-term investment in comfort, sustainability, and peace of mind.
In addition to installation and maintenance, keeping a roof in top condition requires regular cleaning to remove debris, moss, algae, and other buildup that can compromise both appearance and longevity.
Engaging a professional Dakreiniging – Roof cleaning service ensures that every tile or shingle is carefully treated, extending the life of the roof while enhancing the property’s curb appeal.
Similarly, facade cleaning plays a crucial role in preserving the exterior surfaces of a building. Dirt, pollution, and weather-related stains can gradually erode materials, making routine cleaning essential for both aesthetics and structural integrity.
Professional facade services use specialized techniques to maintain the surface without causing damage, helping buildings look fresh and welcoming while safeguarding against long-term deterioration.
By combining roof and facade care with expert installation and ongoing maintenance, property owners create a holistic approach that protects, beautifies, and sustains their investment for years to come.
23-year-old Ainul Husna, who is a final year student in Applied Physics from the Faculty of Science and Techonlogy, did not expect to emerge as winner given the stiff competition from other participants, both local and international.
“All praise to Allah, all of this is granted by Him. My heartfelt thanks to my parents and family members who gave me a lot of support during my participation in this competition. I’m also grateful to my group members for their co-operation and contribution of ideas towards our presentation on the day of the competition, and to my supervising advisor, Dr. Mohd Azman bin Hashim@Ismail who gave plenty of advice and guidance towards our preparations. Not forgetting the lecturers at USIM especially the lecturers of Applied Physics who have always been very supportive,” she said.
When asked to reveal the secret of her success, Ainul shared that she often held discussions with her team members apart from taking in useful input when she attended the NRIC preparation workshop. Additionally, she took the time to perform mock presentations in front of her family members who come from different academic backgrounds, and she also practiced hard with her team members.
Other award-winning products were YAMMEE (Social Transformation and Creative Art Category) which bagged a silver prize while two other products, Dentolight (Medical and Health Science Category) and Qalam Khat (Social Transformation and Creative Art Category) emerged as winners of bronze medals. Al-Quran Waterproof and Fiqh for Disabled Persons Modul are the two other products which were also entered into the competition.
