Lubnan, Feb 9, 2017 –  The adventure of GISO 2017 Syrian We Come, at Syrian Refugee Camp in Lubnan (GiSO SWC 2.0) was successfully conducted by students of Faculty of Science and Technology from 24th January to 1st February.

The delegation consists of 10 USIM students, 5 USIM alumni, 4 medical specialists from The Organisation of Muslim Doctors, Malaysia (PERDIM), a medical specialist and 2 other volunteers from Ibnu Sina Charity Organisation (PERKIS) and three volunteers from Malaysia Lifeline for Syria (MLLFS). The delegation was headed by Prof. Dr.Norita binti Md Norwawi.

The humanitarian mission was also assisted by The Awareness & Consolation Association (ACA), an NGO based in Lubnan, and this is a continuation of the previous Syrian We Come programme, which was first held in 2016 at the same refugee camp.

“This time around, we are focusing on their needs to stay survive in winter. We managed to distribute food package to 650 families, including the orphans, 1000 blankets to 725 families, 500 sweater to children and kerosene oil to 215 families. All these are the major needs during winter,” said Prof. Dr. Norita.

“Alhamdulillah (Praise to Allah), this mission is supported by generous Malaysians who have donated nearly RM 180,000. This amount has actually surpassed our target of RM 100,000. I can say that our people are really concerned and care about brothers and sisters in Syria ,“ she added.

Besides that, the ’الوقاية خير من العلاج‘ or in English ‘Prevention is better than cure’ programme is held in the camps and nearby housing area. It is a medical check-up programme and medicines of worth RM 20,000 were distributed to them for free of charge. The delegation is brought to visit the Arts, Sciences and Technology University of Lebanon (AUL) and  Jinan University; and they were also conducting activities in Beqayal School,  Keternayer. The school is actively involved in supporting and providing the education for children refugee.

The daily programme of the delegation is commenced by the performing of solat subuh in congregation, the reading of Mathurat and religious talk, which is hoped that all participants are blessed by Allah throughout the journey. Post-mortem session and briefing of updates are also held so that the mission will run smoothly.

“We would like to extend our appreciation to all generous contributors and committed delegations from NGOs of PERKIS, PERDIM and MLLFS, who have countlessly help us in this mission. We hope that the strong support that we gain from all Malaysians regardless of races and religions can be continued in the future for the sake of humanity.” She said.
