PETALING JAYA, March 6, 2023 – Welcomed by Dato’ Adnan Pawanteh, Executive Director of Group Corporate Affairs, Nestlé (Malaysia), a delegation from the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) led by Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Sharifudin Md Shaarani paid a return visit to the Nestle Malaysia office in Petaling Jaya recently.

Also present together, the Director of the USIM Research & Innovation Management Center, Dr. Norlida Basir, Dr. Nur Zazarina Ramly, Head of the Programme (Food Biotechnology) from the Faculty of Science and Technology and four lecturers.

This visit also includes a special knowledge-sharing session by Nestle related to Halal management, healthy nutrition and the introduction of Harvest Gourmet, a plant-based food product launched in 2021.

More interestingly, the USIM delegation also had the opportunity to taste plant-based nuggets and a burger patty made from soybeans from Harvest Gourmet products.

Professor Dato’ Dr. Sharifudin Md Shaarani said that USIM’s cooperation with the industry coincided with strengthening USIM’s visibility under the vision of “USIM Cemerlang, USIM Disayang.” The university always welcomes collaboration to invigorate knowledge transfer between the two parties.

He added previously that USIM and Nestle had collaborated through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on 22nd August 2022 to provide Halal education to schools known as the Halal@School with Nestle Program.

“USIM is also planning to hold a Mega Fatwa and Halal Carnival, led by the Fatwa and Halal Institute (IFFAH) in July 2023 with various interesting contents, including the offering of Executive Halal courses and Mega Halal School in collaboration with Nestle”.

USIM hopes that this cooperation will continue to be developed in the Halal field and other fields.
