NILAI, March, 20 2023 – To support digital transformation in higher education, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) launched the USIM Virtual ID (V-ID) Card through the USIM Mobile 2.0 platform.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifudin Md Shaari said in his mandate ceremony, which took place in the Chancellor’s Hall recently that the spark of the idea to implementing this V-ID card began at the end of 2022 with the cooperation of the technical group of the System Development and Engineering Center (SDEC), the Strategic Communication Center (StraComm), the Security Department, and the Department of Registrar.

“The university always supports the era of modernization and the latest technology, and this V-ID card acts as an alternative to physical identification because it facilitates access at our fingertips using a smartphone, regardless of time and place,” he said.

He also adds that the early version of the USIM Mobile app, developed in August 2019, is built purposely for undergraduate students to access their exam results and check student ledgers. Then, optimal use is during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 to record staff attendance while working from home (BDR) mode.

“With the implementation of this USIM Mobile, the concept of ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) to staff has been enforced immediately, where all USIM residents need to use their respective smartphones to access the USIM Mobile application and no more use of myAKRAB Kiosk Machine.”

Now USIM has upgraded the application’s functionality to the USIM Mobile 2.0 version. The university management also would like to take this opportunity to congratulate SDEC for its proactive actions to materialize it in a short time.
