SEREMBAN, October 22, 2019 – Seminar on Marital and Sexuality Counseling (MASEC 2019) was held over two days with the objective to disseminate knowledge in current issues relating to marriage, family, and parenting to professional practitioners in providing marriage and family counselling.

The lead organizer for MASEC 2019 is the Counselling Unit, Faculty of Leadership and Management, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). MASEC is an annual program and it is co-organized with Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN) Negeri Sembilan.

LPPKN Chairman, Datuk Dr Narimah Awin, who had officiated the event said, a total of 53,666 individual and group counselling sessions had been conducted by Psychology Officers and LPPKN Counsellors who are registered with the Board of Counsellors of Malaysia.

“The role of counsellors and counselling services must be viewed as an important necessity in the current situation of society who are facing various pressures in life,” she said.

“This seminar is meeting the demand and necessity to produce professional counsellors who are really ready to assist clients in handling various aspects of family and marital affairs which are getting more complex these days. We hope that this seminar can bridge the gap between the public and professional practitioners in solving family and sexuality issues,” said Dr. Mohd. Khairul Anuar Rahimi, Director of MASEC 2019.

In the same program, Saadah Centre, founded by the Faculty of Leadership and Management USIM was also launched to empower the local community based on counselling and spiritual approach.

A total of 250 MASEC 2019 participants comprising counselling students, counsellors, psychology officers, and staffs involved in the family and marriage institutions had attended the presentations of several papers and case studies relating to family and sexuality issues.
